On 24 July 2026, Google announced it is signing the EU AI Act Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content to support responsible AI use in Europe. The company says the step builds on its 2025 signing of the GPAI Code of Practice and aligns with work to accelerate the C2PA industry standard and AI transparency tools including SynthID watermarking. Google also notes partnerships with third-party AI labs — including Apple, ElevenLabs, Kakao, NVIDIA and OpenAI — to drive interoperable watermarking adoption using SynthID. While supporting transparency, Google cautions that adding regulatory complexity while technical solutions are still evolving could conflict with Europe’s competitiveness and simplification goals and risk confusing users if overlapping AI labels and legal disclosures proliferate. The post commits to working with regulators and partners on practical transparency solutions as the code is implemented.
